Two Months!!!

It is kind of hard to believe we're already 2 months into Bret's life!! He has fit his little self into our lives in the most perfect way. As Serena and I go about our normal activities, he is along for the ride...usually over my arm or in the Moby or sling. When we change his diaper, he smiles and talks to us. He seems to enjoy watching while Serena and I play tea parties, read books, and build puzzles. He still rolls over on a fairly consistent basis and is sitting in the Bumbo every now and then for a few minutes at a time. Serena still loves to hold him and sing to him. She also likes to wipe up his spit-up, help with changing his diaper, pat him when he cries, kiss him and hug him, and rock his car seat when he gets upset during our rides in the car. When she hears him start to cry when he's waking up from a nap, she says (usually very loudly), "UH........................................................................OH!!!!! I don't know why, but she leaves a huge pause between the 'uh' and the 'oh'! ;) Then she runs to him. If he's within reach, she'll 'pat' him (whack him on the tummy or back with her open hand). Although she seems a little rough to me, he actually usually quits crying when she does that, haha! She loves it when I sit down to feed him. She points at him and at my breast and makes the sign for 'ninny.' If she asks for something while I'm feeding him, I'll explain that Bret is having ninny and when he's done I will do xyz for her. I've been really surprised that she never protests. Bret usually nurses about every 2 hours most of the day. He catches a little nap in the morning, and then usually has a longer nap in the afternoon and another little nap in the evening. He might doze now and then in between, too. Usually between 8 and 9 he falls asleep for the night. After that, he sleeps his longest stretch, anywhere from 3 to 5 hours! I've been amazed that he's pulled a 5-hour stretch several times in the last couple of weeks! I don't know when Serena ever did that, but I don't think it was this young! According to the medical profession, I could say that he's "sleeping through the night" (they define "sleeping through the night" for an infant as a 5-hour since infants aren't designed to consistently go longer than that without waking to be fed); although, it's hard to say he's 'slept through the night' when he wakes up at 1 or 2 am!!! Haha! ;) Anyway, he's just been great! I weighed him today and he's 11.4 pounds, which is within an ounce of what Serena was at 2 months! That puts him in the 24th percentile. I was kind of surprised by that, because Serena was around the 50th percentile at that point; but I guess that's the difference between boys and girls on the growth charts! He certainly has chunked up from the little string bean he was when he was born! He has lovely little rolls and dimples in his arms and legs! <3

Found something to suck on!

"How old are you?"

Serena spent about 35 minutes this morning after breakfast carrying out every single book, her puzzle and each of its pieces, and her stacking toy with each of the rings outside...one.by.one! She's so funny! Meanwhile, I got the kitchen cleaned and the dishes done, haha! Later in the afternoon after her nap, she brought them all back in and put them in Rocky's kennel (again, one by one)!

My climber

So expressive

Look how long her hair is getting! I'm always surprised by its length when I comb it out when it's wet because it curls up so much when it's dry.

Happy Two Months, Bret!!

Oh I'm so glad for you to have longer "naps" at night! :-) I am so lucky to have a good sleeper too - Kendra has been pulling 10-11hr nights since 2 months! It sure makes the day better when you feel rested!
