Since the "fwy" incident, Serena has become much more aware of "owies" (which she calls "Ow-ah"). Jordan got some pretty bad scrapes on his knees at camp last week and Serena has to point them out just about every time she sees him. It probably doesn't help that his knees are practically eye-level for her! :D
Today I ran errands in Mt Pleasant with the kids. When we got to Walmart, I grabbed Serena's hand to walk her across the parking lot. She took a couple steps, then realized she wasn't walking BY HERSELF, and started pulling her hand out saying, "No, no, no?" and shaking her head. With her other hand she was pointing to herself which I've come to learn means she wants to do something all by herself. ;) So, I grasped her hand a little tighter and explained to her that I needed to hold her hand until we got to the store so that no cars would run over her and give her 'owies.' After that, she complied and we walked on up to the store without further incident. When we got to our next stop, I had just gotten Bret out of the truck when Serena started pushing her hand up into mine saying, "Ow-ah, ow-ah." Apparently, my warning about the cars giving her owies actually stuck! Haha! She did it at each of our stops after that!
We listened to one of Serena's new CDs in the truck today. The chorus of one of the songs goes, "Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Your love makes me sing!" Serena really got into the "Hallelujah"'s! She would shout "Yah-yah! Yah-yah!"
I have to admit I'm kinda bummed out right now. Although I was initially a little freaked out at the thought of potty training Serena, I had gotten used to the idea and was really looking forward to doing that today. She seemed so ready and I thought it might actually be kinda fun! However, with her getting sick last week (and still not back to full health), she's been a bit on the cranky side and not really herself. She's definitely not as receptive to new ideas as she was when she first started showing interest in the potty almost 2 weeks ago. I suppose it would have been best if I had just dropped everything and potty trained her right then. But, then we would have had to miss out on camp which we were enjoying immensely; plus I didn't have all the things I needed at the time anyway. I hope I haven't missed my 'window' and will have to wait for very long. I guess I'm just going to keep talking about it and watch her for signs that she's ready again. I picked up a potty training book for myself today (from one of my favorite authors, Elizabeth Pantley) and several potty books for Serena. Hopefully, we'll both be very ready very soon!!!
Somehow, I missed getting a picture of Serena today! But, here's one of my sleepy boy Bret right before I put him to bed tonight!
