Serena-isms

Just a few little anecdotes about Serena before we leave the land of internet access.

Common responses to information from others:
"Oh, that's weird."
"That be fine."
"That's silly."
"That be fun, Mommy?"

Still likes to say "Tink too" (thank you) to people when told that they have given or done something for her...even when said people are not present.  Saying it in their presence, though, usually needs a reminder.

Likes to share, since in her mind it means doing something together.  "I share with you, okay, Mommy?" or in reference to my cleaning her up after a meal, "You and Grandma can share."

The question, "Need help?" must be answered in the affirmative, or it will simply be repeated indefinitely.  Once answered affirmatively, she scurries off to get her stool saying, "Mommy need help!"

One of her favorite 'jobs' now is filling her own sippy cup.  She just  needs help getting the lid on and off, but she can reach the water dispenser on our refrigerator when she stands on her stool.  She's also taking over the responsibility of watering the dogs as I just leave a jug of water by their dish.  She really feels important doing that!!

She never actually forgets anything...always "almost forgot."  I think she thinks it's all one word or something, because if I say I "forgot" something, she'll 'correct' me with, "You almost forgot, Mommy?"

She gives the best "morning hugs"!  I always make sure I get one, and Jordan makes sure to get his when he gets home from work in the afternoon if he left before she got up.  Yesterday, Grandpa suddenly realized he hadn't gotten one yet that day, so he asked her where his morning hug was.  "Oh!  I almostforgot!  A lillal (little)."

Bret is one of the highlights of her life.  When he's sleeping, she does a pretty good job of staying quiet so as not to wake him.  But as soon as we hear his little cry on the monitor, she springs up shouting excitedly, "Bet awake! Bet awake! Bet awake!" and runs to his room.  Then, she says, "Look Bet!  Seena's here!!" as though that should make everything instantly better!  ;)

Serena is so compassionate.  She wants to kiss everyone's owies and then she asks (cocking her head), "That feel better?"  When my back starts to give me twinges, I lay down on the floor for a bit to help it get back to where it should be.  She'll come over and say in her sweetest, kindest voice, "Your back hurting, Mommy?  Want me rub it?"  Then she wants me to roll over so she can give me a backrub.  It's so gentle, I can barely feel it, but it's just the sweetest!  "That feel better, Mommy?"  She's so sincere!

Yesterday, Jordan let Serena pet the puppies for the first time.  Up till now, she just sits and watches with big eyes, very respectful of the tiny pups and their mommy.  She was so wanting to pet them, though, so when Daddy said it was all right to pet them, she wanted to be so careful and do it just right. She pet them so softly and said quietly, "It's okay.  It's okay."

This morning, I went with Jordan to take our new puppies to the vet to get their tails docked.  When Grandma went in to get Serena out of bed, Serena wondered where Mommy was.  Grandma told her that I went with Daddy to get the puppies' tails fixed.  "Oh!!  Where my tail go?" was Serena's response, as she felt her backside with her hand!!

Now that Polly's babies have come out of her tummy, Serena is all the more ready for my baby to come out!  It's really hard to explain to a 2-yr-old that she needs to wait until the end of summer!

If you ask Serena how old she is, she will usually reply, "Two an a half."
