Yesterday was a big day. First thing in the morning, Serena went 'to work' with Jordan (he just needed to pick up some supplies for their next job). She was SO SO excited about it! He had told her the day before that he would take her to work with him the next day, and she had gotten all excited and told him that he could build a BIG barn and she would build a little (in a high, squeaky voice) barn. She thinks that's all Daddy does. Build barns. ;) So, yesterday morning, when she woke up, she couldn't wait to go find Daddy and get the show on the road! He was still in bed (he generally gets up before 6am, so he was enjoying 'sleeping in' until 7:30!), so she climbed up on his bed and started berating him with questions about their plans for the day. After he told her all about how they were going to eat breakfast, then get in the truck and go to a store, pick up the supplies, and then stop at the bank and the post office, Serena sat their quietly for a moment. Then she said, "Talk to me, Daddy! Talk to me, Daddy!" So Jordan told her the whole thing over again. She listened so carefully, but still said, "Talk to me, Daddy!" when he was done!
After they had run all their errands, Jordan and Serena showed up at home with a little carton of chocolate milk! Jordan & I have decided to be pretty stingy with sugar for the kids, so this was her first chocolate milk. Ever. She walked in the door happily with her little prize and the accompanying chocolate mustache and proceeded to tell me how Daddy got her chocolate milk "just like Kaden!" Jordan & I got such a kick out of watching her enjoy her special treat...and beg for more, heehee! Later, I heard her confiding to Bret, "Now I know what chocolate milk is." Wow, Serena, you are truly a woman of the world now! ;)
So, after all that morning excitement, we loaded the kids up and headed to Ottumwa in the afternoon. Jordan dropped us off at the 'mall' while he took Rocky to the vet to get his hips x-rayed and certified. The first store we walked into was Herbergers. I headed back to the children's department and started browsing around. And then it hit me that Serena needs to be taken out shopping more often because she really struggles with some of the basic socially acceptable behaviors. No, I'm not talking about being wild and out-of-control. She was just sweetly browsing the racks down within her reach and I heard her little voice say, "I going try these on see if they fit." You know, there's this half-subconscious wavelength that kids are able to hit with their parents where you find yourself agreeing to something but not really registering what it is they actually said. Serena hit it perfectly this time, and I just continued shopping nearby. When I was ready to move on, I looked down at her and lo and behold, the child had removed her skirt and was sitting on the floor in her underwear with a pair of 6x girls' lounge shorts in her hands, trying to figure out how to put them on!!! I didn't want to embarrass her, but I did explain to her how we can just hold things up to us to see if they will fit us. ;)
We got home after bedtime, and after skipping their afternoon naps as well, the kids are pretty tired today! :P
We took the cushions off the couch and the kids have SO MUCH FUN bouncing around on them! |
"Running" around like a crazy boy! |
