Today was our day to run errands. Always a big deal in our house, since it is usually our only excursion of the week. ;) So, I gathered everything together: purse (with fresh supply of diapers and wipes), sling, cooler & ice packs, package to mail for Jordan, and snacks for Serena. My system is that after everything is gathered by the door, then I take it out to the truck and then I come back and get the kids and put them in the truck. The reason for this is that Bret hates his carseat with a passion; the only way he tolerates it is if the vehicle is moving, so I want to put him in his carseat, take him directly out to the truck and then leave immediately. Well, this morning Serena knew I was getting things ready to go, so she had grabbed her sippy and her baby and was standing by the door. She saw me get Bret's carseat and set it down on the floor next to his bouncy seat. I then put the happy little boy in the bouncy seat so I could go put stuff in the truck. Then, I grabbed everything, opened the door, and stepped out into the garage. Suddenly, Serena said "UH-OH!!!!" in a very loud and distressed tone of voice. I turned to see what was wrong, and she was gesturing urgently at Bret and saying, "Uh! Uh! Uh!" while her eyes pleaded with me to understand her!! It was SO sweet!!! "Do you think I forgot Bret?" "Humm" (affirmative). "Don't worry, I didn't forget him! We're going to put this stuff in the truck and then come right back and get Bret." She was satisfied with this explanation and followed me out into the garage. :)
Serena is talking more and more. Not actual words, though she's repeating those after me without any prompting more and more often every day. But she just jibber-jabbers at me constantly, her big eyes telling entire stories on their own! She loves zippers, and whenever she sees them on clothes, I tell her what it is and she repeats, "Zzzzep!" Yesterday, she was looking at my DVD case (which has a zipper) and as she turned it over in her hands, I suddenly realized she was saying, "Zzzzep! Zzzzep!"
Tonight, when Serena went to say goodnight to Bret, she knelt next to him and blew him a kiss. Then, she grabbed his left hand, put it to his mouth and made a kissing sound, like he was blowing a kiss to her. Then she did the same with his right hand! It was so sweet!
Oh, and Julie, I keep forgetting to tell you that the other night, when Serena was still pretty sick, she was having a hard time going to sleep. So, I suggested that maybe she would like Olivia to go to sleep with her. She gave me the affirmative "Humm" and I went and got Olivia. As soon as Olivia was tucked in bed with her, Serena went right off to sleep without another sound! And she's been sleeping with Olivia ever since! ;)
The roofers were working again. Serena sat out on the patio and watched them for a while this afternoon. She felt pretty important with her drink, her 'special drink' (pedialyte mixed with water), and her "Oh's" (which kept getting "Kuck" in the drink holder, haha)
Bret sound asleep this morning right before I got out of bed at 7
