Mondays are our designated grocery-run days! We get groceries in the great metropolis of Mt Pleasant, which is about a 30-minute drive from home. As a result, there's a lot of preparation and planning that goes into the trip! I make sure Serena has a couple of books and a full sippy of water, Bret is freshly nursed, and I have a stash of snacks for Serena. We also bring along a big cooler and a few bags for Aldi, a carefully prepared list, and any returns. And God forbid we leave the house without the nursing cover and sling!!!!
Lately, I've been teaching Serena different classic Sunday School songs...particularly ones with actions. She especially loves "This Little Light of Mine," "If You're Happy and You Know It," "Oh Be Careful," and "I May Never." With her birthday quickly approaching, I decided to get her some kids' music CD's. After a little research and lots of listening to samples, I settled on 3 CD's from Cedarmont Kids. I brought them along for the ride today and we listened to them for the first time.
SERENA LOVED THEM!!!
After each song, she would clap her hands, squeal, say "YAY!!!" and then excitedly sign and say "More! More!!" You have to hear her, it sounds like, "Moe!" with a very sharply raised intonation at the end. SO cute! The first CD we listened to had all 4 of the songs I listed above, and whenever it played one of them, she was all involved doing the actions (or trying to, anyway!). When it played "I May Never," she really got into the "Yes, Sir!" part. It's the most recent song I've taught her, so I think that may have contributed to her excitement over it. But, after that, in between each song she would request (with the action), "Ess-SAH?! Ess-SAH?!"
And then I had a "Mom Moment." I don't know if it's nursing hormones, or that I'm just tired, or if it's because Serena's second birthday is coming up (probably all of the above!), but I got all emotional as I drove along listening to Serena try to sing along and do the actions of those songs. And then, the "Oh Be Careful" song came up and there was a verse I'd never heard before: "Oh be careful, little heart, whom you trust!" I was just overcome with a wordless prayer for that precious little heart!! I love her so much! May God just protect her and bless her with a relationship with Him!
They both look so tired from the big weekend and then grocery shopping! I have no idea why Serena was trying to stuff her hands behind Bret??!
