The BIG Storm

There was a puddle of water in the seat of my lawnchair this morning. Serena would dip her hands into the water, then come into the house and stand in front of me and rub the water through her hair like she was washing it! She was pretty much soaked!

We had a huge storm come through last night around midnight! The thunder and lightning were enough to wake me up, but then it started to get really windy. Jordan & I got up and started shutting the windows that we had left open all over the house. Then the hail started. It was coming down so hard that between it and the wind we could hardly hear each other! I did, however, manage to hear Serena starting to wake up in her room. She just moaned a little, so I knew she wasn't completely awake yet; but I didn't want to take the chance of her waking up all the way in the middle of this big storm and being frightened! So, I went into her room and picked her up, planning to just cuddle and rock her until the storm blew over. I had just sat down in the rocker when I thought I heard some glass breaking. My mind tried to dismiss it (it was really hard to distinguish specific sounds because of the din of the hailstones!), but my ears were still straining to see if I would hear it again. And then I DID hear it again, and this time I was certain! I looked over at the window to see the blanket that covers it moving...and the window had been closed! I gathered Serena up and brought her into our room, since there was no way she was going to be able to sleep in her room now with the window broken! Unfortunately, after all the excitement of the storm had calmed down, Serena did not. It was a very sleepless night for everyone. Except Bret. He slept and slept, until Serena finally fell asleep. Then he woke up. :) Sometimes, I feel like my life is dictated by Murphy's Law. :P

So, we tried to take it easy today rather than trying to get anything done. It was gorgeous out, so that helped. Serena and I set up the pack-n-play in the spare room so she can camp out in there until the window in her room is fixed. I dragged the rocking chair over and brought over the CD player and the humidifier too. She took a really short nap (about half as long as usual...thanks to the incessant stream of contractors ringing our door bell! :P I finally put a note up on the door: "PLEASE No Solicitors!!! It's Naptime for the 1-yr-old and newborn!" I'm sure there were some of those men at least who got a little chuckle out of my pathetic plea, haha!), unfortunately. Hopefully, tonight she will get the rest she needs! Thankfully, she really likes the pack-n-play and thinks it's pretty neat that she gets to sleep in there! :) And she has always loved the spare room. Mostly because she rarely gets to go in there, and there are lots of things in there that she would REALLY like to explore. The printer is a good example! Oh, and there's several shotgun shells sitting on top of a drawer set, and she thinks they're lipstick!! :D
